What if borrowing from a neighbor was as easy as buying from Amazon?

Meutch supports the actual sharing economy. Tech for good: no cost, no ads, no catch.

How Meutch Works

Four simple steps to start sharing with your community.

1

Join a Circle

Circles are your communities: a neighborhood, club, faith group, or friend circle. They control who sees your stuff.

2

List Your Items

Add tools, kitchen gear, camping equipment — anything you'd lend to a friend. Got stuff to give away? List that too.

3

Find What You Need

Search for items nearby, or post a request to let your circles know what you're looking for.

4

Arrange the Handoff

Message the owner, agree on dates, and pick it up. Return it when you're done. That's it.

Why Meutch?

1-click ordering is convenient but costly. There's a better way.

Save Money & Space

Need a ladder for the weekend? A cooler for one party? Borrow it instead of buying and storing it forever.

Build Real Connections

We're surrounded by objects yet lack relationships with our neighbors. Sharing changes that.

Lighten Your Footprint

Every item borrowed is one less manufactured, shipped, and eventually landfilled. Small acts, big impact.

Humans thriving has always come from working together.

Meutch is nonprofit, open-source, and community-driven. No ads, no data collection, no business model. Just people who enjoy helping.

Common Questions

It's short for "mutual aid", so it's pronounced "mewch." Peter Kropotkin popularized the term in his essay arguing that humans (and other animals) helping each other has been key to their evolutionary success.

Meutch uses trust circles: you share with people you're connected to through real communities. You control who can see and borrow your items.

Unlike social media groups, Meutch is structured and searchable, so you find what you need instead of scrolling a sea of random objects (though you can do that too if you want). Plus: more privacy controls, no Facebook required, and it supports lending, not just gifting.

No catch! Meutch does not make money and will never be commercialized. Hosting costs are currently paid by Sam out of pocket. If this thing takes off, we'll set up a crowdfunding model.

Meutch is initially focused on growing in Ann Arbor, MI where it was founded. If you live elsewhere, please use it — but you’ll need to bring friends! If you’re part of a group that already shares with each other, it could work. Drop Sam a line with any questions.
